Teen stable after “surfing” on hood of car

MONTICELLO – A Rock Hill youth is in Westchester Medical Center in stable condition with severe head injuries after he fell off the hood of a vehicle.

Brandon Stryker, 17, was found lying on the ground in the McDonald’s parking lot on Route 42 in Monticello at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday.  Investigation revealed he had been “surfing” on the hood of a 2009 Pontiac G6 sedan as his friend, Eric Shambly, 19, of Monticello, drove around the parking lot.

Stryker apparently lost his balance and fell off the hood, striking his head.

The Monticello Fire Department and Mobile Medic responded to the scene. Stryker was flown to Westchester Medical Center.

Shambly was charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree, vehicular assault in the second degree, and DWI. He was arraigned and sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.
