Condo treasurer arrested in $130,000 fraud case

NEW CITY – A Suffern man has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $130,000 from his condo association where he served as treasurer.

Matthew Stoll, 47, was charged with one count of grand larceny in the second degree, a felony, according to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Zugibe.

Between January 2004 and November 2009, Stoll allegedly took $130,345 from the Sussex Condominium III, while holding the treasurer’s position on the board.

From January 2004 until November 2009 he wrote 47 checks from the association’s checking account that were made payable to himself and relatives.

The theft was discovered on December 3 during a regularly scheduled budget meeting between Stoll and several board members. The fraud was brought to the DA’s attention immediately.

While Stoll was treasurer, he prepared monthly written financial statements for the board and they contained false information to hide the thefts, it is alleged.

Stoll was arraigned and remanded to the Rockland County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
