Sheriff’s car involved in Thruway accident

TUXEDO – No one was injured when an Orange County Sheriff’s police car rear was involved in a three-car chain reaction accident on the Thruway in Tuxedo Wednesday. An inmate, being transported from Rikers Island to Town of Goshen Court, was in the vehicle. No one was injured in any of the cars.

The crash occurred in a work zone that had heavy traffic, said Sheriff’s Capt. Dennis Barry. The deputy was attempting to change lanes when the accident occurred. His car struck the vehicle in front of him and that car hit the one in front of it.

Damage to the vehicles was minor. No tickets were issued.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, there was a report of a state police car being rear ended while investigating an accident on the I-84 ramp of Route 17K in the Town of Newburgh.
