| Icy conditions cause countless accidents, one fatal |

MID-HUDSON – Sunday afternoon’s mixed precipitation caused many accidents, including one that killed a Brewster woman. A pickup truck and a sedan crashed head on, on Route 22 in the Town of Patterson just before 12 p.m. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said a pickup driven by Pamela Agresti, 47, of Far Hills, NJ lost control and skidded on the icy road, striking the car driven by John Mangini, 22, of Atkinson, New Hampshire. One of the occupants in the car, Susan Bach, 51, of Brewster, later died at Danbury Hospital. She was a back seat passenger who was not wearing a seatbelt. Police said the impact of the crash propelled her from the back seat to the front of the car where she apparently struck the dashboard. Her daughter, Nicole Bach, 23, also of Brewster, and Mangini, were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries. Agresti, her husband, James, 55, and their son, Andrew, 6, were all taken to Putnam Hospital Center for treatment. The definitive cause of the crash has not been determined and the accident remains under investigation. No summonses were issued. The road was closed down for four hours while a crash investigation team reconstructed the scene. Other accidents occurred on the Taconic State Parkway, the Thruway in Harriman, I-84 and other roadways in the Mid-Hudson region.
