Phone threat leads to man’s arrest

CARMEL – A Westchester County man has been arrested, having been accused of making a threatening telephone call to an ex-girlfriend’s home in Putnam County, Sheriff Donald Smith said.

According to a criminal complaint files in Town of Phillipstown Court, James Bernstein, 24, of Verplanck, allegedly called the woman’s home in Phillipstown and threatened her and her family with bodily harm.

Bernstein was charged with aggravated harassment in the second degree, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail, which he later posted.

An order of protection was issued against him by the woman and her family.
