WINGDALE – An elderly couple perished in a fire that ravaged a house at 15 Old Forge Road in Wingdale early Friday morning.  The bodies of John Spenard, 97, and Kathleen Spenard, 85, were found in the front foyer area.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene around 1:30 a.m. and found the house fully engulfed in flames.

Attempts to enter the home proved futile because of the intense heat and flames.  When firefighters were able to put the fire out, they found the victims.

Members of the Dutchess County Cause and Origin Team were at the scene, but have not yet identified the cause of the fire.
