Three area clean energy businesses get state grants

MID-HUDSON –  Three clean energy businesses in the Hudson Valley will share more than $400,000 in state funding..

“By helping these small, trailblazing companies achieve the next level of business development, we will continue to solidify New York’s position a leader in the new economy by focusing on clean energy, and bring New York closer to realizing my ’45 by 15’ energy efficiency and renewable energy initiative,” Gov. David Paterson said, Tuesday.

SpectraWatt, Inc. in East Fishkill will receive $200,000. A manufacturer of solar photovoltaic cells, it is currently constructing its first manufacturing facility in the area. The award will be used to accelerate sales growth into larger solar-electric generating systems and fill its expanded 60 MW capacity.

Apex Wind Energy in Patterson will receive $200,000. The developer of large-scale wind projects will use the funds to explore the potential of expanding renewable energy development at closed landfills. The award will allow the company to evaluate the suitability of the existing designs of landfill-based wind turbine foundations, identify closed landfills with an adequate renewable resource, and develop a detailed business plan for developing the market for wind energy facilities on landfills.

Windsor Machinery Company, Inc. of Hopewell Junction will receive $11,500 to facilitate expansion into the small and micro-hydro sector of the state. The company will develop a website to help potential customers and developers evaluate electricity production potential and likely costs for any given site for the amount of potential hydro-power remaining to be developed on private land.
