Four killed when car slams into tree

FALLSBURG – What is described as the worst car accident in the Town of Fallsburg in recent memory occurred Saturday morning when a car rammed into a tree, split in half and killed four people.

Two others who were in the Infiniti when it crashed were in critical condition and rushed to a hospital, Town of Fallsburg Police said.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m. when it is alleged the car was traveling north on Pleasant Valley Road when it failed to negotiate a curve and crossed into the oncoming lane. It side swiped a dodge Durango going in the opposite direction before it struck a tree and split in half.

The names of the dead were withheld Saturday pending notification of relatives.
