Billy Stop robbers sentenced in Sullivan County Court

MONTICELLO – Two men who robbed the Billy Stop gas station in November 2008 were sentenced Friday in Sullivan County Court to terms in state prison.

Joshua Quick, 21, of Rock Hill, and Raymond Rodriquez, 36, of Monticello, were both sentenced on convictions for robbery in the second degree for the gas station November 2, 2008.

According to Chief Assistant District Attorney James Farrell, Quick was sentenced to 7 ½ years in state prison and Rodriquez received five years in state prison.

Assistant DA Robert Zangla requested that Judge Frank Labuda sentence Quick to the maximum under the plea agreement, 10 years in state prison, for his involvement in the robbery where Quick threatened the clerk with what appeared to be a handgun.

The handgun turned out to be a BB gun that the duo had stolen along with masks from Wal-mart prior to the robbery.

The duo stole approximately $1,900 from the Billy Stop during the robbery.

Quick was also sentenced for criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree for taking a credit card that did not belong to him and using it on multiple occasion while he was out on bail on the robbery charge and he received a 1 1/3 to four year sentence on that charge, with that sentence to run concurrently with the robbery sentence.

The robbery case was investigated by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the stolen property case was investigated by the New York State Police.

“This case was solved and the criminals were apprehended and convicted because of excellent police work. The detectives at the sheriff’s department were able to connect the masked robbers to a prior case they were working at Wal-mart and were able to positively identify both of the men who participated in this violent crime,” said Farrell.
