Dutchess lawmakers support end to MTA payroll tax

POUGHKEEPSIE – Members of the Budget and Finance Committee of the Dutchess County Legislature Thursday voted to call for an end to the MTA’s payroll tax.

The resolution calls for the New York State Legislature and Governor Paterson to find a new way of funding the MTA that will not be a burden to Dutchess County residents who do not benefit from the service.

The committee resolution also “strongly encourages” Connecticut to pay an increased subsidy and fare increases for Connecticut riders.

The resolution will now go before the full county legislature.
