| Ulster gets more money to repave Route 28 |
|
KINGSTON – Ulster County will receive an additional $8.3 million in federal stimulus money, which will be used to repave over 23 miles of Route 28 roadway and shoulders from Route 375 in West Hurley to Route 28A in Boiceville, and from Route 215 in Phoencia to the Delaware County Line. The project will begin next spring, said County Executive Michael Hein. “I’m thrilled to say that we’ve been successful in achieving $8.3 million to repave this incredibly important corridor, especially when you are talking about things like for the residents there, but also for our tourism industry because this is a road taken specifically for skiers in our community,” he said. The county has been working to complete its engineering and preliminary work to use over $27 million in other stimulus money the county has secured to date. Hein said the county was able to obtain the new money because of its diligence to capture funds that other government entities were unable to secure.
