Foreign exchange student from Brazil killed in Thruway crash

CORNWALL – A foreign exchange student from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil died as a result of injuries she sustained while a passenger in a car with three other people on Sunday afternoon.  Her car rear ended another vehicle on the thruway in the Town of Cornwall as traffic slowed.

The other three people were injured, but Luisa Sartori, 20, died about an hour later at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s Cornwall campus.

The operator of the other car was not injured.

All of the people in the Sartori vehicle were Duke University students, who were en route from Vermont to the college in Durham, North Carolina.
