Holocaust remembrance marked at SUNY Orange

MIDDLETOWN - A Holocaust remembrance night was held at SUNY Orange Monday to keep alive the memories of the six million Jews who were slaughtered by the Nazis.

“As we are moving further and further away from the event, people are forgetting,” said college professor Heidi Webber.

“I think it’s very important that we keep these memories alive, that we keep this remembrance going so that people are aware of the horrors that took place during the Holocaust.”

The six presenting students had to interview someone who experienced the Holocaust, and if that person was deceased, conduct research and present their research.

Two survivors of the Holocaust were there and talked of their remembrances.

The six students were Rachel Webb, Norma Jean Martine, Katie Miller, John Simmard, Jenn Tosi, Dennis Quackenbush and Ashley Mita.
