Healthcare worker charged with sexual abuse

SOMERS – A Cortlandt Manor woman, who worked at a nursing home, has been charged with having sexual contact with a 60-year-male patient who suffers from severe mental defect.

Carolyn Wheeler, 29, was charged with endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person in the second degree, a felony, and sexual abuse in the second degree, a misdemeanor.

Wheeler had been employed at the Somers Manor Nursing Home as a recreational leader.

It is alleged that she returned to the facility while off duty on the evening of August 17 and was found by nursing home staff while engaged in the sexual contact.

She was arraigned and remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $3,000 bail.
