Migrant worker charged with raping woman on country road

STUYVESANT – State Police at Livingston have arrested a migrant worker who frequented a horse farm for allegedly abducting and raping a woman as she took an early morning walk on Eichybush Road in the Town of Stuyvesant.

Manuel DeJesus Mauricio Ramirez, 29, a Guatemalan national, was charged with rape in the first degree when he was caught in Westchester County.

The charge stems from the abduction of the woman on Sunday as she walked near her home. She was approached in a desolate are, assaulted, held against her will for about 1 ½ hours, sexually assaulted and raped, police said.

The entire attack occurred in the roadway. The victim was unable to escape or call for help until a motorist drove by.

Ramirez fled the scene, but was located in Westchester County with the assistance of White Plains Police and the Westchester County Department of Public Safety while he was in the process of returning to Guatemala.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail.

Ramirez was also charged with aggravated sexual abuse in the first degree, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree and assault in the third degree.
