Man shot in groin during dispute

PHONECIA – A 25-year-old man was shot in the groin during an altercation at a residence on Route 214 in Phonecia early Sunday morning. Kingston State Police and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident that occurred at 1 a.m. at the home of 68-year-old John Rymer.

Police said it is alleged that a physical altercation took place between an assailant and a resident in the home.

During the incident the owner armed himself with a legally possessed .9mm handgun. In the course of the altercation, one round was fired and struck the alleged assailant, Kyle Manny, 25, in the groin. He was transported to Kingston Hospital where he was admitted for his injuries.

As a result of the investigation so far, Richard Manny, 27, who was staying there with Kyle Manny, was arrested for criminal mischief in the third degree and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.

The investigation is continuing into the circumstances surround the firing of the weapon by Rymer and the actions of Kyle Manny.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, DEP Police, Woodstock and Shandaken Police, Shandaken Ambulance and Hudson Valley Paramedics.
