Mom charged with bringing prison contraband into county jail

HUDSON – A 40-year-old Craryville woman has been arrested by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and charged with promoting prison contraband in the first degree, a felony, for allegedly bringing Oxycodone pills into the jail during a visit to her incarcerated son.

Wendy Vavrina was charged in connection with the July 22 visit, remanded to the county jail in lieu of $500 cash or $1,000 bail bond. She must return to town court.

Officers found several of those pills in a cell when sheriff’s officers conducted a shakedown at the jail.

Meanwhile, a warrant was lodged against Bryan Smith, an inmate in whose cell the drugs were found. He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and promoting prison contraband in the first degree.
