| Ground broken for new Columbia County park |

STOCKPORT – Work has begun to develop the new Harrier Hill Park in the Town of Stockport just north of the City of Hudson. Scenic Hudson is developing the 6.5 acre facility that will offer panoramic views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains. The park, which will be completed in October, will be adjacent to 92 acres of open meadows donated to the state Department of Environmental Conservation by the environmental organization. And Scenic Hudson President Ned Sullivan said the new park will be more than just a scenic area. “Creating parks, preserving land is part of a green economy that is taking hold in the Hudson Valley and it’s going to help us recover from the economic recession,” he said. “Public spaces are essential to preserving quality of life, while also giving the added benefit of increasing tourism activity in the region,” said Congressman Scott Murphy. “The sweeping vistas from Harrier Hill Park are among the most breathtaking anywhere in the Hudson Valley, and are little changed from the way they looked when Henry Hudson sailed past here 400 years ago,” said Scenic Hudson President Ned Sullivan.
