Poughkeepsie seeks developer for downtown property

POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie is seeking a qualified developer to purchase the property at 16 Pershing Avenue in the Main Street downtown corridor for purposes of redeveloping it.

The city is asking for $100,000 for the 1.3 acre parcel, which includes a masonry building that is in need of demolition.  Suitable uses for the property include retail, wholesale and restaurants.

“Even during tough economic times, true values still exist,” said Karen Lewis, the city’s property development director.

Mayor John Tkazyik said city leaders envision redevelopment of the property as “another critical link in the success of the downtown corridor.” He said they will continue to building “upon the energy of Luckey Platt, Behrends Court and the former Imperial Lounge property, while returning another vacant property to the tax base.”

A request for proposal package must be returned to the city by September 30.
