First round of clean water infrastructure grants announced for Hudson Valley

ALBANY – A big chunk of federal stimulus money is on its way to Middletown to be used for water and waste water infrastructure upgrades. The city will receive $27.8 million and Mayor Marlinda Duncanson said the city will use its new found money to fund the wastewater project. The price tag on that is $30 million. Work began in mid-February.

Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther said the state is “committed to using the stimulus money to create jobs.” This project will create a great many jobs in the Orange County area, she said.

“Middletown won’t have to borrow the money; they’re getting stimulus money, so this is couldn’t be better news for the City of Middletown.”

Other infrastructure money from the stimulus package will go to the counties of Rockland and Westchester.

Rockland will receive $35.2 million for two water collection system improvement projects and Westchester will receive $55 million for wastewater treatment plant upgrades.
