CSX Railroad crossing to be reconstruction at $1 million price tag

SAUGERTIES – The CSX Railroad crossing with Tissal Road in the Town of Saugerties is going to be relocated and improved at a cost of $982,000 and 80 percent of the cost will be picked up by the federal government. The remainder of the cost will be covered by the state, said state Transportation Department spokeswoman Sandra Jobson.

Kingston Equipment Rental of West Hurley was awarded the contract with the work, which already began, to be completed this fall.

The project at the junction of Tissal Road with the CSX railroad crossing and King’s Highway, calls for relocation of the existing intersection about 1,000 to the north. A total of over 1,500 feet of new roadway will be built, along with installation of a gated, signalized railroad crossing.

The relocated intersection will eliminate the need for traffic turning from Tissal Road onto King’s Highway to stop on the railroad tracks while waiting at the intersection.
