Kolmar Labs may leave Port Jervis for El Paso

Kolmar plant on River Road in Port Jervis

EL PASO – Kolmar Laboratory has operated its cosmetics and pharmaceutical manufacturing business in Port Jervis for over 65 years, but it may be pulling up stakes and moving to Texas.

If Kolmar, which employs about 750, were to leave Orange County, it would deal a major economic blow to Port Jervis and the region.

The company says the deteriorating business climate in New York and the enticements from the City of El Paso may be enough for it to move to the Lone Star State, according to the El Paso Times.

The El Paso City Council has offered it property tax rebate incentives to the tune of $1.5 million over five years and the county may come up with enticements of its own.
